French cameraman Olivier Sarbil spent six weeks with an elite unit of the Iraqi special forces as they fought to recapture the city that fell to IS, also known as Daesh, two and a half years ago. In a special report for Channel 4 News, he tells the intimately human and yet often shocking story of the conflict and its effects not only on those civilians living in Mosul but also on the soldiers fighting to liberate the city.
I was employed as a researcher on this project and worked with Olivier to organise and condense his 20+ hours of footage into the final 15 minute edit.
You can watch the film in its entirety on Channel 4 News.
